Comment Exchange, Do They Read Your Post Before They Comment?

Currently, I'm participating in an activity called Comment Exchange in, at least, three Facebook Groups about Blogging. I participated in this activity because I wanted people to start commenting on my blogs. If visitors see that other people are commenting on a post then it might just encourage them to comment as well.

Comments and Opinions

Comment Exchanges in Facebook work like this, if you are a participating blogger then you must post your link to your blog entry in the official Comment Exchange post which is oftentimes started by an Admin of the group. Other participating bloggers will also post their own links to their own blog entries.

You must then visit all the links posted and comment on the blog entry. In return, other participating bloggers will do the same with your link. They will visit your link and comment on your blog entry as well.

Comment Exchanges are very common in the blogging world but I've never really participated in them until just recently. It's a very good idea of getting traffic and comments but it also has its own problems.

One of its problems is, some Comment Exchange participants don't even read what you've posted. They'll just base their comments on the title of your post and you will eventually end up with an out-of-topic or an off-topic comment.

For example, my blog post titled "Sizzling Bangus and Rice, Perfect Lunch For The Masses" received 19 comments but 7 of them had nothing to do with the topic. Those who posted the questionable comments simply read the title and assumed I was talking about a real Sizzling Bangus but if they had read the post then they would had known that I was talking about a brand of cheap fish crackers sold in Sari-sari stores.

Fortunately, the majority of those who commented read the entire post and was able to comment accordingly.

So, are you participating in any kind of Comment Exchange? If you are then do you think they are reading your post before they comment on it? If yes then post your answer as a comment below. If no then post your answer as a comment below as well.

  1. Those who are not commenting relevantly will be considered as SPAM and in my part I remove it without hesitations. It's better not to have comments than having comments which doesn't make sense at all

  2. The title should be the basis for the content of a blog. Otherwise it will be out-of-place. This is one of the reasons why search engine is considering for their ranking. If I were to make a title of your blog, it should run this way" "Cheap Fish Crackers - Sizzling Bangus and Rice, Perfect Lunch for the Masses" So, the title now has a bearing of what you're talking about. Gets?

  3. Agree! sometimes it's frustrating, you're exerting effort to read their blog entry specially for me, I don't really read blogs and even news without any pictures (haha), but for comment exchange I really don't have a choice. But getting repeated comments that I'm so fortunate to have good photos because I have a DSLR is really frustrating me.. even reading the first paragraph of my blog posts they would know outright that I don't have a DSLR! ;( or asking questions that I already answered in the short text content of my photoblog! hehe ;))

  4. Hehe.. Huli ka! Ayun, nalaman tuloy na nagskipread. lol.

Minsan, inaamin ko din na nagsi-skipread ako. Lalo na sa regular bloghopping ko (not the ComEx), kasi madalas, sobrang haba na ng post na binabasa ko. Though interesting yung topic, masyadong wordy ang post. Kaya skipread. But in the end, I always make a point na may sense naman ang comment ko.

I usually drop long comments.. pero pag hindi talaga ako makarelate, ayun short comments lang. Eh sa wala talagang mapiga eh.

Just recently lang din ako nagjoin sa ComEx, nung binago nila ang rules. CHOSEN links.

But good thing, I also have loyal readers outside the ComEx activity. Those people who will read and comment on my posts without expecting a reciprocation.

    Ayun.. haha! Anghaba. lol

  5. you will definitely read from the comment itself if the commenter really read your post.

anyway, i welcome any comment on my post, except the one which says, "what can i say?" hahaha! kakainis lang.

and normally, i don't read all posts in fb like and g+ exchanges. hehehe!

  7. @Sir Gil, you're absolutely correct but it still does not excuse people for not reading the post before commenting. ;)

If we are just going to comment based on the title then why bother writing a blog post. We could all just write long descriptive titles and be done with it.

  8. Well, i have not tried it, but with most systems, some dubious people always feel they are smart and try to abuse it. So, in this case, they would enjoy relevant comment from you but would go ahead and post comments that looks more like spam.
